Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, Roy Herman's Garage and service station survive as one of the oldest examples of a franchise styled service station in western New Mexico. Initially the building was a Standard Oil Company station in Grants that opened in 1935. In 1937 the steel panels over steel framework building was dismantled and rebuilt in Thoreau
