This historic motel receives mixed reviews. The 1955 edition of the Western Accommodations Directory published AAA lists Bates Pioneer Motel as being 1/4 miles north on U.S. 66 at Bypass. It notes that, "rooms have shower baths, central heat, and radios, some rooms air conditioned." In 1955 rooms rented for $4.00 to $9.00 per night.
